Dear Members and Subscribers,

“Some old-fashioned things like fresh air and sunshine are hard to beat.” — Laura Ingalls Wilder

Spring has sprung, and if March was any indication of the weather to come, we are in for a treat this spring.

We are also in for a treat with the upcoming PMI Switzerland event lineup: there is an open space event on the political aspect of project management, a networking congress at HEC Lausanne, and a virtual event about Swarming in the digital age (an agile technique to eliminate delays and low-quality work).

Read on for more details, as well as to find out about other topics that have recently taken place within our network.

Happy reading and Happy Easter!

"All you need is Dopamine"

At the PMI Switzerland Chapter we are very member oriented and we are on a mission to create more dopamine shots for our members.

So how does this work?

As humans we are a delicate chemical soup of hormones and neurotransmitters going from testosterone and oestrogen over cortisol and adrenaline to dopamine and serotonin. Every single time we have a pleasant experience, we get a little dopamine shot. We hear a good joke, dopamine. We solve the problem, dopamine. We have a good time, dopamine and so on and so forth.

There is one more thing we need to understand regarding the workings of dopamine, and that is its anticipation. You see, every time we are close to repeating an activity that has given us pleasure in the past, we will already start producing dopamine, which will in turn make us crave that activity, the full dopamine shots. The force of anticipation from dopamine is the driving force behind our willingness to go the extra mile and to achieve more goals. It makes us unstoppable because we know the reward is coming.

At PMI Switzerland we are constantly reflecting on keeping the things fun for our members instead of death by PowerPoint. We are spicing things up with more on-site and online events, workshops and networking activities. We have introduced new engagement programs for our members like Guest Pass to have the dopamine flowing and to allow the members of PMI Global to enjoy one year for free with the PMI Switzerland. Moreover we are very appreciative of every feedback we receive from our members and we are constantly building on it to keep them happy.

If you are on your way to achieve even more project management related goals and to enjoy your dopamine rush then come join us, grow with us and be part of the PMI Switzerland Family. Our goal is to leverage the expertise of our network together with simple tools to help you master the daily project and program management tasks.

BE HAPPY

Rather than asking yourself, “Can I do this?”, ask yourself “Do I want to do this?”

Author: Monika Keller, PMP

Years ago, I was asked to lead Project X. It would have been a big change management project, but I couldn't stand by it. It just didn't fit my understanding of sustainable and responsible business as it was clear it would not end well for the company and my colleagues. Perhaps you know what I mean. Yet I knew my sponsor had to implement it as it came straight from the top (he was showing them the effects by regularly stating facts and figures, but they had other priorities). - I looked for all kind of answers and excuses as to why I couldn't do it. At one point, my boss said, "Monika, I'm convinced you can do it. Because no matter what project I give you, it always turns out well! You have all the prerequisites to do it. The question is rather whether you want to do it..." -
