‍Message from the Board

‍Author: Stefan Vesenmeier, PMP, DASSM

Chapter President PMI Switzerland

In the more than 12 years that I have been a member of the Swiss Chapter and have been able to help as a volunteer in the organization and execution of more than 100 events for Project Management Professionals, I have always found it exciting and meaningful to be a part of the worldwide PMI organization and community. I believe PMI is really an important and relevant organization for all PM interested people, which provides a valuable contribution to the education and training of project workers of any knowledge level, especially in Switzerland.

But as of today, I am really stoked to be a part of PMI Europe!

In response to the war and the current situation in Ukraine, PMI Europe has spontaneously decided to help. First of all, a quick and generous donation to the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC) will support the current relief efforts in the crisis area.

In addition, longer-term support of various activities locally is also planned. In order to become active here as quickly as possible, initial contacts have already been made with the local Ukrainian Red Cross to offer our help, e.g. support/training of helpers in the planning and implementation of relief measures.

As soon as concrete measures for support by our volunteers arise, PMI Europe will reach out to their Volunteer Community. It would be great if the Swiss PM Community would then also participate.

One small but crucial circumstance makes me particularly happy. Thanks to the personal commitment and connections of some of our Swiss volunteers, we were able to help quickly establish the right contacts between the PMI contact persons and the responsible coordinators at ICRC. This has been instrumental in enabling PMI to provide help so quickly. For this, once again an extra thank you to those mentioned!

I think to speak in the name of all our volunteers when I say that our thoughts are with all those who have to suffer the consequences of this unnecessary and inhuman war, as well as with those who selflessly and without hesitation help wherever help is needed. THANK YOU!

Finally, I would like to draw your attention to our upcoming events program. For a while now, our regional teams have been preparing to run on-site events again. We think now is the right time, as not only the pandemic restrictions have been lifted, but also the infection numbers are decreasing. The regional event teams in Basel, Geneva, Lausanne, and Zurich are actively planning and organizing interesting and exciting evening events. In addition, we regularly invite all interested people for socializing events (such as lunches, drinks, etc.) where we want to focus on small-talk, big-talk, and networking with like-minded people.

All our events can be found on our website at: www.pmi-switzerland.ch/events

Thanks to all supporters and friends

After two years of no face-to-face events due to the pandemic, I believe that we all were longing for some human contact, to socialise with people and enjoy ourselves.

Our main purpose for creating the Project Management Networking event in Zurich - (PM networking ZH) is to bring together the Project Management community through in-person networking and connect with like-minded people to share and exchange ideas, experience or just to chit-chat about everything!...

How to Tailor Your Project according to PMBOK® Guide 7th Edition

‍Author: Thando Dube, PMP

With the advent of the PMBOK® Guide 7th edition last August, we saw a shift away from the traditional Knowledge Areas and Process Groups that most project managers fondly relied on for “Tailoring projects”. This shift has left many project managers in search of solutions on how to tailor projects. Should they continue using the Knowledge Areas and Process Groups or integrate the twelve Principles of Project Management to lead them in tailoring the eight Performance Domains to fit the project context as proposed in the PMBOK® Guide 7th edition?

Challenges in building up a campaign on a crowdfunding platform during COVID times

Author: Ethel Mendocilla Sato, PMP

Thanks to research on Human Microbiome, we know that our “microbial self” has a profound influence in human physiology, immunity, and metabolism. For example, extensive study of the gut microbiome has shown its most significant importance on our short- and long-term overall health. However, other parts of the human body are largely unexplored, including the vagina. Although the vagina is the second place most populated by microorganisms, which have a critical role in women’s health, it is under-researched. Surprisingly, the vaginal microbiome field only represents 3% of scientific publications related to the Human Microbiome field. This knowledge gap prevents the development of effective and practical clinical therapeutics that could protect and improve women’s health and well-being...

Narratives related to Innovation

‍Author: Gessami Sanchez Olle, PMP

Before closing 2021, we had the opportunity to learn about innovation in the second face-to-face (F2F) event in Basel, after the start of the pandemic.

Thanks to Giovanni Nisato, one of our Basel Events team members, we could explore the role that narratives can play in innovation processes. We create some stories to make innovation happen and some also to make sense of it, after it occurs...
