[Message from the Board]

Author: David Puippe

VP of Marketing and Communications

‍Dear PMI Switzerland Members,

As the summer ends, I hope this message finds you well and recharged for the second half of the year.

Over the past few months, the PMI CH BoD has been working diligently to enhance the value we bring to our vibrant community of project management professionals. I would like to share some of the key initiatives that we have focused on during this period, which I believe will benefit all of us in moving forward together. In the Newsletters in the coming months, readers can look forward greater detail to be shared by each of the VPs.

One of our current endeavours is the reactivation of the Guest Pass Program, spearheaded by Ala Lutz, our VP of Membership.

The entire board is also heavily supporting the planning and execution of our chapter's key events, notably, the PM Conference 2024 on September 23rd, and the the International Project Management Day (IPMD) on October 30th, lead by Pia Henzelmann and Stefan Vesenmeier respectively. I highly encourage your attendance, as these events promise to be rich in content and networking opportunities.

To further enhance the quality of our events and other offerings, we have been developing a comprehensive Speakers Database, driven by Joachim Dehais.

In parallel, the 2025 events strategy is being developed under the supervision of Thando Dube.

We have also made significant strides in forging new Chapter Sponsorships and Partnerships. Mafalda Amaro and her team have successfully unlocked fresh prospects growth. Owing to their recent achievements, this team also plans to expand their academic and social good collaborative initiatives, with future training sessions in the pipeline.

Another area of focus is on the evolution of the PMI Switzerland Chapter website. Following a migration in early 2024, the Operations Team, under Philippe Soupart's leadership, is fervently at work in revamping the website.

Finally, we recently completed our half-year budget review, overseen by Augustin Salvadores.

We are most pleased with what has been accomplished thus far, and anticipate continued favourable outcomes that will benefit our community in the coming months. As these projects were conceived with our entire community in mind, we hope that a selection of them may resonate with you. Should this be the case, we would be delighted to welcome you as a volunteer. I encourage all to get involved within any of our highly rewarding intiatives. Volunteering is undoubtedly an exceptional opportunity to share your expertise, develop new skills, and connect with fellow professionals.

Together, we can continue to build a strong, dynamic, and supportive PMI Switzerland Chapter that benefits us all.

Warm regards,.

David Puippe

Author: Pia Henzelmann
Events Experience Director (PMI CH)

‍Dear PMI Members and Friends,

By now, I can imagine that you must have seen a LinkedIn post or two of the expert speakers at the 13th Project Management Conference, or some of your peers have asked you whether you are attending on September 23rd in Lausanne. Excitement is indeed building up around the PM Conference, so I am taking this opportunity to share with you the reason!

Let me start by sharing some insights on our All-day Program, which our team has worked tirelessly on. Our top focus during the initiation of this event was to provide exclusive and quality content on major topics revolving around AI n Project Manager. Making every effort to ensure this, our Speaker Team interviewed around fifty speaker applications, covering topics such as:

  • AI & People
  • Human Excellence
  • Industry Use Cases
  • Legal & Sustainability
  • Transformation

After countless hours conducting virtual interviews and rigorous assessments, the Conference Speaker Team narrowed their proposal to fifteen sessions, which comprised several talks, three industry use case sessions, and two workshops. On top of this, we are fortunate to have secured a Keynote presentation from Capture, our Gold Sponsor's, on AI-Driven Transformation. I will not delve further into the details of each session, or how much you will benefit from the event - Let's be honest... that's what every event claims! I take pride in the program that we have created, so I will let our program page do the talking.

AI Between Inflated Expectations and
Growing Disillusionment

Author: Florian Ivan, PMP, ACP, DAC, DASSM

‍In any new technology or innovation, it is challenging to pinpoint exactly where you are in its development cycle, or to predict its ultimate impact on the world. This is particularly true for AI today. While it is clear that AI is transformative, it cannot be definitively stated how big its impact will be, or how it will reshape industries and society in the long run. The uncertainty surrounding the future of AI mirrors the unpredictability inherent in all major technological advancements.

The Gartner Hype Cycle is a graphical representation used to illustrate the maturity, adoption, and social application of emerging technologies. It follows a curve that starts with a "Technology Trigger", leading to a "Peak of Inflated Expectations", followed by a "Trough of Disillusionment". As understanding improves, it moves to the "Slope of Enlightenment", and eventually reaches the "Plateau of Productivity", where the technology  becomes mainstream.

This model helps organisations manage their expectations and plan for technology adoption. The Gartner Hype Cycle is a straightforward tool in understanding technological innovation, though it is often considered controversial due to its generalised and sometimes subjective nature.
